Welcome to Arabic Immersion Magnet School!

Hello,

We are thrilled to welcome you and your child(ren) to the Arabic Immersion Magnet School family! Whether you're joining us for the first time or are already part of the Houston ISD community, we’re excited to begin this journey together.

At AIMS, students don’t just learn the Arabic language—they learn through Arabic. This immersive model helps students develop strong reading, writing, and speaking skills in both Arabic and English. While it may seem challenging at first, rest assured that our dedicated teachers will be there to support your child every step of the way.

 What to Expect at Orientation

Our New Parent Orientation is a great time to:

  • Meet our principal and staff
  • Learn how our language immersion program works
  • Understand our daily schedule, lunch options, and more
  • Ask questions and connect with other new families

We know that starting a new school, especially one with a second language, can be exciting and a little intimidating. That’s why we’re here to help you feel confident and ready.

Tips for Success

Here are a few tips to help your child have a great start:

  • When your child is rested and happy, talk about how exciting joining AIMS will be!
  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine starting next week
  • Continue reading with your child on a regular basis in your native language
  • Don’t worry if your child says they “don’t understand” at first, language learning takes time, and they will grow every day

Stay Connected

We believe that families and schools work best as a team. You’ll receive updates through email, ParentSquare (once you are signed up), the campus newsletter and our school website. If you ever have a question, just contact the appropriate person, we’re always happy to help.

 Why Arabic Immersion

Students in an immersion setting begin to experience cognitive benefits within the first few years of consistent exposure. Research shows that by the second or third year, students often demonstrate stronger skills in problem-solving, memory, attention control, and mental flexibility compared to their non-immersion peers. These benefits continue to deepen over time and are most pronounced in students who remain in the program through upper elementary and middle school, when the brain’s executive functioning skills are rapidly developing.

Arabic is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. By learning it at a young age, your child is:

  • Developing global citizenship
  • Strengthening memory, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Building strong communication abilities
  • Gaining a deeper understanding of diverse cultures

We can’t wait to learn, grow, and celebrate with you this school year.

Again, welcome to AIMS where we learn, speak, write, and dream in Arabic and English!

Warmest regards,

The Arabic Immersion Magnet School Team
